The plan to pay GPs for enrolling elderly patients should be extended to include children aged five or under before eventually covering the entire population, the AMA says.

The AMA also wants new MBS items to fund after-hours teleconsults between a patient and their usual GP, plus direct funding for dressings for older patients’ wound care.

The list of demands is part of the AMA’s annual federal budget wishlist, which it revealed on Thursday.

Its number one wish for primary care is the expansion of the Federal Government’s $450 million patient enrolment plan, which is scheduled to begin in July, to cover more patients.
