Payroll tax amnesties may not cover IMGs without fellowship
The definition of a GP used for state payroll tax amnesties has raised questions over whether IMGs, registrars or other doctors still working towards GP fellowship will be rejected.
Under their payroll tax amnesties for practices, the Queensland Revenue Office and RevenueSA both define GPs as “doctors registered as GPs with the Medical Board of Australia”.
AusDoc has sought official clarification over whether a deliberate decision was made to exclude doctors with general registration, especially IMGs working towards fellowship.
AMA SA president and Port Lincoln GP Dr John Williams said he had not heard of practices that had been caught out under the definition.
