Payroll tax could force one in five practices to close: RACGP
Up to 20% of GP clinics would close if forced to pay additional payroll tax, the RACGP has warned in full page advertisements in Sydney newspapers.
In the open letter published on Wednesday, the college also warns Premier Dominic Perrottet he could “inadvertently wipe out bulk-billing” if general practice is forced to cover payroll tax — currently 5.45% in NSW.
“Nearly 80% of GPs would have to pass the payroll tax on to patients as gap payments and increased fees,” the letter stated.
“Many of our GPs would leave general practice altogether.”
