Payroll tax: GPs secure another state amnesty but with a catch

GP practices that provide wage information to tax officials in SA will be granted a year-long payroll tax amnesty and protection from retrospective audits.
The announcement by the SA state government is being sold as another major win for the specialty as practice owners warn of potential closures and the complete collapse of bulk-billing if revenue offices around Australia issue demands for the tax.
The SA tax amnesty will run until June next year.
Dr Sian Goodson, chair of the RACGP’s SA&NT faculty, said practices that registered for the amnesty would have to disclose wage information to RevenueSA.
