Peak body for public hospitals liquidated, owing $450,000 to creditors
State governments refused to save the Australian Healthcare and Hospitals Association, administrators have said.
Australia’s 78-year-old peak body for public and non-profit hospitals has collapsed into liquidation after recording losses of $740,000 in just over two years.
Following a vote by creditors, the Australian Healthcare and Hospitals Association (AHHA) has ended all operations, including its peer-reviewed journal, The Australian Health Review, and its research wing, the Deeble Institute for Health Policy Research.
Its remaining seven employees have lost their jobs.
Administrators from McGrathNicol told creditors the AHHA recorded a loss of $239,000 in 2023/24, followed by another loss of $146,000 in 2024/25 and then $355,000 more in the first few months of 2025/26.
