‘People in nursing homes cannot go to urgent care clinics’: More GP services fall victim to PHN after-hours funding cuts
The Federal Government has reduced the national funding given to PHNs for after-hours care.
A long-running GP after-hours service will be forced to close after the Federal Government withdrew all after-hours funding to its local PHN.
The Southern Highlands GP After Hours Service has been operating in rural NSW since 2003 and has been funded for the past 10 years by South Western Sydney PHN through the national PHN after-hours program.
But last month, the service’s chairman, Dr Vincent Roche, was told the contract would end.
The PHN said it could no longer commission the service because all its after-hours funding, which is provided by the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing, ceased on 30 June.
