Peter Dutton woos GPs with $400 million plan to rescue the specialty

After its frosty response to last week’s federal budget, the AMA has praised the Opposition budget response for its plan to entice more junior doctors to become GPs.
Peter Dutton, whom AusDoc readers once dubbed the worst health minister since 1980, has promised that a Coalition Government would provide $32,500 grants to junior doctors who took up GP training, to help address the pay disparity between GP registrars and hospital counterparts.
