Pharmacist banned for allowing junior staff to dispense S8 drugs

The owner of five pharmacies has been barred over instructing assistants to dispense without a pharmacist on site

A pharmacist has been barred for a year after instructing unqualified junior staff to dispense medications, including schedule 8 drugs, without a pharmacist on site.

Andrew Kaye used a system of text messages to enable pharmacy assistants to dispense medicines, including S8 drugs.

All up, he allowed junior staff to dispense medications on six occasions in two of his Pharmacy Nutrition Warehouse businesses in Sydney.

He also ordered staff to retrospectively complete the drugs of dependence register, according to the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal.
