Pharmacist used dead patients’ details to defraud $2 million from PBS: tribunal

A pharmacist who “brazenly” defrauded $1.94 million from the PBS by submitting fake claims, some using dead patients’ details, will not be allowed to apply for registration again until 2032.
The pharmacist, whose name was suppressed, is currently in custody after being sentenced to five years’ jail, with a non-parole period of 18 months, in March last year.
The Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal said he used details of 50 doctors without their knowledge when submitting 697 false claims.
The claims were for medications that were never dispensed for 69 patients between 2017 and 2020.
