Dr Monique Ryan, the independent MP who riled the Pharmacy Guild of Australia by pushing 60-day dispensing, had an inkling that change was coming when a queue of pharmacists approached her last week.

As was splashed across the media on Wednesday, the Federal Government will roll out a 60-day dispensing option for common medicines over the course of the next 16 months.

It follows Dr Ryan asking in Parliament why the government had not picked up a PBAC proposal from back in 2018 to let patients with long-term stable conditions collect two months of medicines at once.

All eyes were on the federal budget, scheduled for 9 May.
