Pharmacists have performed just 415 consults in Queensland’s prescribing trial, but what they are doing exactly remains a mystery

Steven Miles wants pharmacist prescribing to become permanent even though the evaluation is years away.
Steven Miles.

Following the heated controversy over Queensland’s pharmacy prescribing experiment, around 400 patients — potentially fewer — have consulted a pharmacist.

A big question is what the pharmacists have been treating. But we don’t know.

It seems we will only be given information on the presentations, the S4 drugs prescribed and the clinical outcomes in 2026 when the trial’s evaluation is presented.

It is also unclear exactly what patients paid for this care, given there is no Medicare or state government funding for this expanded scope.
