Pharmacists in NSW will soon begin prescribing first line treatments for uncomplicated herpes zoster with an expansion of the trial to include some skin conditions starting next month.

From 12 July they will also be able to prescribe topical treatments for dermatitis and mild plaque psoriasis under the expanded pilot.

Eczema, shingles, impetigo and mild plaque psoriasis would be covered by the trial, on top of treatment for UTIs and the oral contraceptive pill already available through pharmacies via the program.

The trial will wrap up at the end of February 2025, or when the maximum number of trial-supported consultations has been reached.
