Pharmacists to complete two hours of training to diagnose UTIs: Vic Govt

Pharmacists wanting to offer UTI and contraceptive consults under the Victorian Government’s controversial pharmacy prescribing pilot will start their training next month.
The State Government is yet to reveal the content of the online training program but says it should take 2-7 hours per clinical stream — these being UTIs, contraceptive care, travel vaccinations such as polio and “minor skin conditions”.
AMA Victoria walked out of the advisory group for the pilot last month, although AusDoc was told last week that the RACGP’s Victorian faculty remained involved.
The state AMA claims that the government, which will pay pharmacists $20 per consult, had failed to answer critical questions about its pilot including which skin conditions pharmacists will be treating.
