Pharmacists secure UTI prescribing powers in NSW before clinical trial results
The NSW Government will permanently allow pharmacists to diagnose UTIs and prescribe antibiotics despite not seeing the results from its 10-month trial.
From 1 June, all pharmacists who undergo the state’s training program and have a consulting room can provide UTI consultations, says NSW Minister for Health Ryan Park.
However, the government will no longer cover the $20 consultation fee.
It has warned patients that pharmacies will now be free to set their own fees, in addition to the cost of medication.
