Pharmacy guild president stands by ‘unifying, inspiring’ comments criticising GPs
The Pharmacy Guild of Australia’s president is standing by his comments that GP supervision of pharmacist prescribing would be “bloody insulting” and that GPs “stuffed” the health system by letting non-doctors own practices.
Professor Trent Twomey told pharmacy students last week that pharmacists should be able to prescribe all medicines within their scope of practice, in comments reported by the Australian Journal of Pharmacy.
“We do not support being able to only prescribe if someone else is looking over my shoulder,” Professor Twomey reportedly said.
“You don’t see a plumber needing to look over the shoulder of an electrician before they put in your air conditioner.”
