Pharmacy losses from 60-day dispensing ‘just 1.5% of revenue’

The AMA and RACGP have written to federal politicians urging them to ignore pharmacy lobby groups and wave through the Federal Government’s plan to let GPs to write double-length scripts.
The plan for patients to collect 60 days of medicines at once for common PBS drugs is meant to start in September, with pharmacies predicting losses as they miss out on dispensing fees.
However, Minister for Health and Aged Care Mark Butler needs to get draft laws through Federal Parliament, including the Senate, where the Labor Government lacks a majority.
It means he needs support from either the Opposition, or the Australian Greens and two more crossbenchers.
