A police officer who tasered a 95-year-old aged care resident last year faces up to 25 years in prison after being found guilty of manslaughter through criminal negligence.

A 12-person jury delivered a unanimous guilty verdict at the Supreme Court of NSW on Wednesday, following a cumulative 20 hours of deliberations.

Footage from the aged care home’s CCTV and police body-worn cameras showed Senior Constable Kristian White, 34, tasering great-grandmother Clare Nowland in the torso in the early hours of 17 May, 2023.

Mrs Nowland, who had symptoms of dementia, was brandishing a steak knife and slowly moving towards Constable White on her walker.
