Premier announces ‘much broader’ trial of salaries for GP registrars

GP registrars in Tasmania will have the option of being employed by the State Government in a major expansion to the so-called single-employer model for GP training.
Up to 20 registrars will be offered four-year contracts as part of a trial starting this July, Tasmanian Premier Jeremy Rockliff announced on Friday.
It follows a small-scale trial in Murrumbidgee, NSW, of having rural generalist trainees on salaries.
RDAA CEO Peta Rutherford said the Tasmanian trial would not be limited to rural generalism, making it “much broader” than the trial in NSW.
