Prescribing protocols for Vic pharmacists treating skin conditions finally revealed

The two 'minor skin conditions' to which MPs alluded are psoriasis and shingles.

The Victorian Government has finally named shingles and psoriasis as the skin conditions that pharmacists will start treating in March as part of its pharmacy prescribing trial.

Former premier Daniel Andrews pledged that pharmacists would be funded to treat UTIs and skin conditions back in November 2022 as part of a state election campaign.

The AMA was originally advising the $20 million pilot but walked out last September because of what it described as 22 unanswered questions, including the full list of S4 medicines pharmacists would prescribe.

Despite this, Victorian pharmacists have had powers to diagnose and treat UTIs and renew contraceptive pill scripts since October.
