Associate Professor Munjed Al Muderis says he can no longer operate on his osseointegration patients after his medical defence organisation decided to withdraw his cover for the procedure.

On Wednesday, a colleague’s message was posted on Facebook telling patients that the orthopaedic surgeon’s insurance had been revoked for “future work in osseoinegration, including clinical consultations and surgery”.

Dr Mustafa Alttahir said the MDO made the decision following accusations by patients in the media that alleged they had been abandoned after surgery, leaving them with pain, chronic wounds and infections.

Professor Al Muderis denied any accusation of wrongdoing or substandard practice, saying the claims aired in a 60 Minutes program this week were untrue.
