Professor Michael Kidd answers GP questions on COVID-19 and mental health

The Department of Health’s latest webinar for GPs has focused on the growing challenge of mental illness associated with COVID-19.
Webinar host Professor Michael Kidd declared GPs were “absolutely central” to Australia’s mental health response during the pandemic, amid concerns for the welfare of patients struggling to cope with lockdown measures.
The Deputy Chief Medical Officer was again joined by Dr Jenny Firman of the Department of Veterans’ Affairs and Dr Louise Stone, a GP from Canberra and lecturer at the Australian National University medical school.
Dr Stone said many of her patients were becoming progressively more isolated during the lockdown, particularly young mothers and the elderly.
