Associate Professor Sally Shrapnel spent nearly 20 years working as a GP.

In her 40s she made a change, becoming a scientist whose research into quantum physics spans artificial intelligence, digital medicine and philosophy.

Now deputy director of the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for Engineered Quantum Systems at the University of Queensland, she speaks to AusDoc about the need for all doctors to embrace life’s uncertainty principle.

AusDoc: From what I’ve read about you, your passions at school were mathematical. How did you end up applying for medical school?
