‘Progress in the right direction’: Second state adopts breast density reporting

Women undergoing routine mammography at all BreastScreen SA clinics will now be notified of their individual breast density.
The updated policy, which came into effect on Tuesday, makes SA the second jurisdiction to adopt widespread breast density reporting after WA.
It follows a six-month study that found more than 90% of women said they would like to continue to be informed of their breast density, whereas 2% preferred not to be told as part of future breast cancer screening.
It also found that 65% of women strongly agreed or agreed that knowing their breast density meant they were more informed to make decisions regarding their breast care, according to BreastScreen SA.
