Prominent cardiologist stabbed in home invasion 

Associate Professor James Leitch, head of cardiology at NSW’s John Hunter Hospital, is in a stable condition.

A prominent cardiologist has been stabbed during a home invasion, and is recovering in the hospital where he heads the cardiology team. 

Associate Professor James Leitch is now in a stable condition at John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle, after emergency surgery following the attack on Sunday night

The 67-year-old was stabbed once in the back after four men forced their way into his Armidale home at about 10pm, NSW Police said in a statement. 

They then stole his phone, watch and car keys before fleeing
