Prominent doctor slams ongoing border closures

AMA president Dr Omar Khorshid has lashed out after the WA government reneged on plans to open its borders, warning ongoing closures “won’t protect the state forever”.
Premier Mark McGowan announced last week that he would no longer be reopening his state to the rest of the country on 5 February in a bid to prevent “thousands of COVID-19 cases” pouring in.
Perth-based Dr Khorshid said he was “gutted” by the decision. He said it was the wrong approach given Omicron was already in the state and would cause a significant outbreak “soon enough”.
“Seems WA Premier Mark McGowan is a one trick pony when it comes to COVID-19,” the AMA president tweeted.
