PSR investigates after-hours corporate giant

The Medicare watchdog has launched an investigation into Australia’s largest after-hours GP corporate over whether it knowingly allowed doctors to engage in inappropriate billing.
Australian Doctor has confirmed the Professional Services Review opened a probe into the National Home Doctor Service in June last year following a referral from Medicare’s integrity unit.
Details of the investigation remain unclear, but sources have confirmed it followed meetings between PSR director Professor Julie Quinlivan and 15 doctors who had worked for the company, which provides after-hours home visiting services.
But the industry giant is attempting to stop the investigation in the Federal Court, arguing that it should not have been held responsible for the billing of its doctors.
