The Professional Service Review says it will begin sharing more details on its work to better explain why some doctors are getting into trouble over their MBS claims.

Every year, between 50 and 100 doctors make agreements with the watchdog, volunteering to repay rebates, with some facing total or partial disqualification from the MBS and PBS.

Under the agreements, the doctors’ identities are protected by law. But as a result, the PSR has opted to share scant information about the cases, beyond listing their specialities and information on the MBS items and rebates involved.

However, PSR director Professor Julie Quinlivan says that will soon change, under measures intended to improve the transparency.
