Push for children to be vaccinated against COVID-19
Three leading doctors are calling for children to be vaccinated against COVID-19 to ensure future outbreaks are contained.
Writing in the Medical Journal of Australia’s Insight, they say the move is needed as Australia has little herd immunity due to the comparatively low numbers of cases to date, while at the same time more transmissible strains are on the rise.
Children must become a priority for vaccination, to not only protect them and their families, but to achieve herd immunity.
The call was made by AMA WA president Dr Andrew Miller, University of NSW epidemiologist Professor Raina Macintyre and Queensland Children’s Hospital paediatric intensivist Dr Julie McEniery.
