A ban on public clinics initiating puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones to under-18s will last for at least eight months after the Queensland Government revealed details of its evidence review.

Minister for Health Tim Nicholls announced the ban in January following allegations that the Cairns Sexual Health Service had deviated from guidelines for treating teens and kids.

This month, Mr Nicholls released terms of reference for an independent review and announced the lead reviewer as Professor Ruth Vine, a former Commonwealth deputy chief medical officer for mental health and Victorian chief psychiatrist.

He said the ban would remain until the report was finished, with its due date of 30 November, and its findings considered.
