RACGP and AMA presidential races heat up

Two more GPs have thrown their hats in the ring to be the next college president

Two more GPs are launching bids to become the next RACGP president with both pledging to improve funding for the specialty.

Melbourne GP Dr Magdalena Simonis and Associate Professor Charlotte Hespe, current chair of the RACGP’s NSW and ACT faculty, join three other candidates in the race.

Professor Hespe said her main focus would be increasing remuneration for GPs and ensuring the long-term viability of general practices.

“We need to be willing to look at more innovative models of funding,” she said.
