RACGP demands return of $80 MBS item for COVID-19 antiviral prescribing

The RACGP also wants to keep the existing relationship exemption for patients with COVID-19.

The RACGP is lobbying the Federal Government to bring back the $80.10 MBS item for COVID-19 antiviral prescribing that was axed on Monday.

The college also says cutting the existing relationship exemption for patients with COVID-19 will force patients to attend GP practices while infectious, placing “other patients and practice staff at unnecessary risk”.

Officially, the antiviral prescribing item and the existing relationship exemption for patients with COVID-19 were only temporary parts of the MBS.

Having extended their life span multiple times already, the government allowed them to lapse on the scheduled date of 1 July this year.
