Doctors with specialist GP qualifications from countries like the UK and New Zealand are losing the ability to obtain automatic RACGP fellowship in Australia.

Historically, specialist IMGs with GP qualifications that are “substantially comparable” with those from Australia have received RACGP fellowship without sitting through any training or exams.

Australian Doctor understands that around 300 doctors a year have received specialist recognition through the college’s program, known as Fellowship ad Eundem Gradum (FAEG).

After gaining their fellowships, these doctors are expected to complete a module on Aboriginal health, although it has been difficult to force any to do so, according to sources familiar with the program.
