RACGP practice standards: New section on point-of-care testing in latest draft

The standards will be redrafted once more before a final version takes effect in 2026.

The RACGP has introduced a new section into its draft practice standards covering point-of-care testing after a year-long redrafting process.

The updated 152-page draft has thousands of changes compared with the first draft published in 2024, from making tissues available for patients as part of infection control to writing strategies for carbon emission reduction.

It retains a proposed mandatory criterion on staff vaccination, with wording tweaks.

“Employed members of the practice team and independent members of the clinical team have recommended immunisations based on the risks associated with their respective role,” the proposed criterion says.
