More than 250 GP registrar places have been left vacant as interest in the specialty dwindles

More than 250 GP registrar places have been left vacant this year, representing the biggest GP training shortfall in almost 10 years.

The figures revealed by AusDoc seem to reflect the dwindling interest in general practice.

Just 1749 doctors lodged eligible applications for this year’s program, compared with 2000 eligible applications last year.

The last time all GP training places were filled was 2017, when around 2400 doctors applied.
