The RACGP president will run a workshop on ways to introduce fees in general practice, with the aim of helping GPs “escape the trap” of universal bulk-billing.

It will be the first a series being put together by the college which is warning of the dangers of relying solely on Medicare rebates to fund care in general practice.

Dr Karen Price says she will cover the benefits of a mixed-billing model during the hour-long webinar as well as how to manage the transition, including ways to discuss fees with patients.

The session will also include examples of how other practices have done reduced bulk-billing and the strategies to help GPs evaluate their options and tailor a fee schedule to their own practice.
