RACGP ultimatum: Mark Butler must reveal new care plan rebates or shelve the changes

The government plans to equalise the rebates for writing and reviewing care plans.

The RACGP says the Federal Government must confirm the updated rebates for writing and reviewing GP care plans or delay its long-planned reforms until next year.

The government pledged back in 2023 to axe the $130 team care arrangement item and then make the rebates for reviewing a care plan the same as for creating it, boosting the financial incentives for patient follow-up.

The changes affecting a critical billion dollar stream in funding for general practice are meant to be in place in just six weeks.

But the government is still yet to confirm the new rebates, including whether the care plan preparation rebate will be lowered from its current $164 level.
