RACGP welcomes medical board action on frivolous complaints

The RACGP has welcomed medical board changes aimed at reducing frivolous notifications after a poll suggested 80% of GPs had been on the wrong side of such a complaint.
The college poll of 1290 GPs asked whether they felt they had been subjected to a vexatious complaint, with four out of five saying yes.
But in releasing the results, RACGP president Dr Nicole Higgins said there had been a positive update from the medical board.
“The regulatory complaints system is in place for a reason; however, it is being misused by a small minority of unreasonable patients and this is taking a huge toll on GPs,” she said in a statement.
