Physicians’ college asks charities regulator to take it over and suspend the board
The board said the EGM against its president would continue but did not say whether the upcoming elections would be impacted.
The Royal Australasian College of Physicians has asked the charities regulator to appoint administrators to take over the college — an extraordinary escalation following eight months of governance chaos.
Some 30,000 members received an email from the college board this morning, telling them it had asked the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) to intervene.
The board said it wanted the commission to suspend the four remaining directors immediately and appoint its own interim directors.
Written by Dr Nicholas Buckmaster, the honorary treasurer, the email said the move followed “a prolonged period of governance difficulty” that had significantly affected the board’s ability to operate.
