Radiographer pressured GP into backdating referrals for his parents: tribunal

Mr Lau had conducted scans on his parents, who were ineligible for Medicare, 'as though he was a doctor'.

A radiographer pressured and tricked a GP into backdating X-ray and CT referrals for his mother and father, a tribunal has found.

The tribunal heard that Jonas Lau had conducted scans on his parents himself “as though he was a doctor” at the radiology practice where he worked, back in 2017.

This was to avoid paying for the scans when his parent did not have Medicare, according to the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal.

Hours later, Mr Lau’s employer found out and sacked him.
