A radiologist with 18 years of experience has been suspended after failing to give adrenaline after a patient’s anaphylactic reaction during a CT coronary angiogram.
The doctor blamed a lack of recent training for his response when Peta Hickey, 43, had a severe anaphylactic reaction to 75ml of iodine contrast dye in 2019.
A 2021 coronial investigation concluded that the delay was a proximate cause of Ms Hickey’s death from multisystem organ failure and hypoxic/ischaemic encephalopathy.
Ms Hickey had undergone the scan at a private clinic as part of a workplace health screening program for executives.
