‘Ban on ramping’ is not helping hospitals, doctors tell politicians

The Tasmanian Government’s decision to ‘ban ramping’ from this week is not fixing the state’s health crisis but will come into conflict with medical decisions, doctors say.
During the Tasmanian election campaign, Premier Jeremy Rockliff said his government had mandated a 60-minute turnaround for transferring ambulance arrivals to ED, and would cut this to 30 minutes over time if re-elected.
“Thirty minutes is around the average time it takes an ambulance crew to safely transfer their patient to the care of the hospital,” he said.
“Which means that effectively, we’re going to be banning ramping.”
