The receptionist’s nightmare: GPs fear mass vax shortages

For the immediate future, vast majority of practices will be sent just 50 doses a week

Having spent so long urging as many practices as possible to join the nation’s coronavirus mass vaccination campaign, the Federal Government is facing a predictable problem: not enough doses to go around.

During the next four weeks, more than 4500 GP practices will receive their first vials of AstraZeneca’s vaccine — but for 3400 of them, consignments will be limited to just 50 doses a week.

“It’s nowhere near enough for us to run a viable vaccination clinic,” says Dr Nathan Pinskier.

The Melbourne GP points out his largest clinic has some 3500 patients who he says are eligible for the vaccine.
