Registered nurse prescribing on the PBS pushed back to December

Registered nurse prescribers will have to wait another two months to write PBS scripts after IT concerns pushed the start date back to December.

The Federal Government had originally said designated nurse prescribers could begin writing PBS prescriptions from 1 October.

The revised start date comes after warnings from clinical software vendors that the government had not given them sufficient time or information to build and safely test the necessary IT systems to support the rollout.

The Medical Software Industry Association told AusDoc that it supports the delay and is confident that vendors will be able to build and update the relevant software systems in time.
