Registrar who fought ‘antiquated’ AHPRA fee rules says 30% rebate for parental leave doctors is not enough

A registrar who campaigned to reduce AHPRA registration fees for doctors on parental leave says the changes announced this week are positive but not enough.
On Monday, AHPRA announced a 30% fee rebate for health practitioners who took six months of parental, disability or carer’s leave in the 2024-25 registration year.
For eligible doctors, it essentially cut the registration fee from around $1000 to $700.
Dr Belle Sasse started campaigning against AHPRA’s fees when she returned from maternity leave in 2023 and faced a $955 fee to practise for two weeks.
