Healthcare workers in Melbourne will have access to thousands of extra parking permits after one doctor copped a fine after a four-day shift looking after COVID-19 patients.

Royal Melbourne Hospital registrar Dr Katarina Arandjelovic said she had worked 56 hours when she discovered the parking fine late on Monday night.
