Restrict health claims allowed on vitamin B6 supplements, RACGP says

The college was responding to an interim TGA decision to reclassify supplements containing 50-200mg/day of vitamin B6 as pharmacy-only medicines.

The RACGP has backed moves to reschedule certain vitamin B6 products but wants the TGA to go further on regulating the health claims made by supplements.

The college was responding to an interim TGA decision to reclassify supplements containing 50-200mg/day of vitamin B6 as pharmacy-only medicines.

Products containing more than 200mg/day would remain prescription-only under the proposal, while those containing less than 50mg/day could still be sold in supermarkets.

RACGP president Dr Michael Wright said the proposals were a “positive step” towards reducing harms from excessive vitamin B6 intake but added that rescheduling was just one part of the solution.
