AHPRA should promptly tell hospitals when complaints are made against their doctors so action on problematic practitioners is not delayed, an independent review has suggested.

Victoria’s Epworth HealthCare has released a report from an investigation into the clinical governance of its gynaecology services, prompted by allegations that former gynaecologist Dr Simon Gordon performed unnecessary endometriosis surgeries in its hospitals. 

Dr Gordon, who has been referred to a tribunal by the Medical Board of Australia, surrendered his registration following a Four Corners investigation that alleged multiple women had made complaints about his care to Epworth and AHPRA.

He has denied the allegations made against him.
