A regional training organisation has repaid $1.2 million to the Federal Government after admitting it misused taxpayer money meant for training its registrars.

Some 520 registrars are currently with General Practice Training Queensland (GPTQ).

But the organisation has been under scrutiny since November 2018, when staff members blew the whistle over alleged financial mismanagement by its long-serving former CEO Peter Harrison.

Mr Harrison was eventually sacked by GPTQ when a forensic auditor’s investigation found nearly $3 million had been spent on sub-contractors for “marketing services” over the previous three years.
