Why did ACRRM fail to fill half its training places?

This year’s shortfall in the Australian General Practice Training program — 252 vacant places — is a new low.

The RACGP, which controls the bulk of the 1500 training places, says rural positions are the toughest to fill.

ACRRM is also struggling, with 69 vacancies from 150 positions, despite lobbying the Federal Government for more places in the training program.

We ask ACRRM president Dr Dan Halliday about the shortfall, whether the training takeover has helped or hindered and what is necessary to get more junior doctors into general practice.
