Salbutamol shortage ‘an opportunity’ for patients to ditch SABA-only asthma treatment
The National Asthma Council says a 'huge change' is still needed amongst both patients and health professionals
A worsening shortage of salbutamol nebules, while stressful for patients, has renewed the push for adults with asthma to stop relying on short-acting beta2 agonist–only treatment.
GSK says its 5mg/2.5mL salbutamol sulfate inhalation ampoules will not be available until 17 August, and its 2.5mg/2.5mL version will be in limited supply until 21 December.
The TGA says the shortage reflects increased demand for GSK products, which has, in turn, put pressure on the supply of other salbutamol products.
Cipla’s salbutamol 5mg/2.5mL remains available.
